Volunteers: PICU RN Minimum Requirements


We are thrilled that you are interested in volunteering for a life saving heart care mission trip.  Before contacting us, please be sure you meet the following requirements:
 

  1. Three years of PCVICU experience.
  2. Current RN License,CPR,PALS Certification is required as well.
  3. At least two years PICU,hospital nursing experience.
  4. Currently employed in a PCVICU a minimum of 400 Hours per year. The candidate must be:
    1. Competent in airway management of intubated,non intubated pediatric patient.
    2. Competent in the care of the Post-op Pediatric Cardiac.
    3. Medical,Surgical,Interventional management and treatment of the cyanotic,non-cyanotic patient.
    4. Knowledgeable of  PCVICU, PACU, IONOTROPIC drugs,dosages and their effects.
    5. Able to perform a multi system assessment and intervene appropriately.
  5. Pediatric /Adult ICU nurses will be considered if their current employment includes the immediate post op care of patients similar to those on HCI trips intubated,non-intubated post op patients.
  6. Able to supply if asked a letter of recommendation from current immediate supervisor.
  7. Ability and willingness to teach staff and families in the clinical setting in the pre op post op periods.
  8. Personal characteristics include:
  •  Comfort with infants, pediatric
  •  Flexibility, cooperativeness, inventiveness
  •  Able to adapt and overcome obstacles
  •  A positive attitude
  •  Perseverance during stressful situations and long hours of work
  •  Sensitivity to and an appreciation of cultural differences
  •  Appropriate public relations skills.
  •  Ability to work as a team member
