As a result of the February 2014 Valentine's Day trip to Lima, Peru, 13 Peruvian children are now thriving due to the life-saving heart surgeries that HCI provided and the relationship between HCI and INSN has grown stronger than ever. HCI Team Members report that upon arriving in Lima, they ware met by a young, energetic and enthusiastic team of medical professionals from INSN, San Borja. The spirit of collaboration and partnership were clear from the moment that the HCI team landed in Lima and continued throughout the surgical week and most importantly in the post operative care week as well. Working together, in the brand new, state-of-the-art INSN facility, also gave the local professionals a chance to get comfortable in their new surroundings, with the support of their HCI partners. Marking this milestone event in Lima, INSN officials requested that HCI extend their typical 5 year in-country commitment to 10 years in order to maximize the impact that the organization could have on the heart care and overall health care of some of Peru's most indigent constituents. HCI's next Peru trip is slated for October 20th, 2014.
